NC STEM Alliance – FREE Summer STEM Prep Session
Supported by generous funding from the National Science Foundation, STEM Prep is a FREE summer academic enrichment program for under-represented minority 11thand 12th graders who are interested in pursuing bachelor’s degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) disciplines. It will take place at CPCC Central Campus, June 13-July 15, Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:00 – 5:15 pm. Hillman Experience Operation HBCU College Fair - April 6, 9-1 at Butler High School
HBCU Pride Nation and Butler High present the Hillman Experience, which features a Pep Rally complete with collegiate cheerleaders and other athletes, Greek-letter organizations, local NC/SC HBCU Alumni, college Kings and Queens, financial aid reps and more! There will also be a panel discussion focused on popular topics centered around the HBCU experience, including dispelling the myths and fallacies that exist with attending HBCUs. UNC Project Uplift Summer Program for Juniors – Deadline: February 15
Current juniors who are have shown outstanding academic ability, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, such as American Indian, African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian American, first-generation, and disadvantaged are the target audience, but Project Uplift is open for anyone to attend.
Project Uplift: Experience college life on the UNC campus over two days in May or June.

Rising Juniors and Seniors interested in earning college credit while still in high school are invited to attend the CPCC Career and College Promise Program Info Session on January 31 at 5:00 in the PHS Chorus Room. Kimber Morton, CCP Program Coordinator will explain the program and process for enrolling. CPCC courses that qualify for college transfer credit will give one extra quality point (same as AP). Note, only current juniors and seniors can participate in the summer program. Seniors who have not decided what to do after graduation are invited to attend "Undecided NIght" at Olympic High Schoo,l on December 3, from 6-8 pm. There will be various options to explore, including five different branches of the military, six different departments at CPCC, different colleges that have "bridge" programs where students do not need high GPAs to attend, the CMPD, as well as local businesses like Red Ventures that hire students straight out of high school.

The College Connection Program gives high school students priority registration and supports them in the admissions process. The purpose of the NCACTE Guidance and Career Development Division Scholarship is to assist the recipient during his/her higher education by subsidizing the cost of attending a community college or university. The $1,000 scholarship is available on a competitive basis to graduating high school students who have taken Career and Technical Education courses and achieved the status of CTE Concentrator. Applications are open for the 2018 Princeton Summer Journalism Program, an all-expenses-paid journalism and college preparation program at Princeton University for high achieving juniors from low-income backgrounds (3.5 GPA and family income no more than $45,000). Students learn reporting skills from celebrated journalists, report and write their own newspaper, and are paired with a counselor who oversees their college admissions process. The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour – FREE DC Trip for Juniors (application now open)
Three high school juniors have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. June 9-15, representing Union Power and the state of North Carolina during this once-in-a-lifetime experience! The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour is an annual event coordinated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives (NCAEC). College Testing for Sophomores and Juniors - February 9, 6:30 pm
Sophomores, juniors and their parents are invited to attend “College Testing for Sophomores and Juniors” in the PHS auditorium on February 9th at 6:30 pm (immediately following AP Night at 5:30 pm). This session will help you understand your PSAT and PreACT scores, learn strategies for improving results on the SAT and/or ACT, and learn how to use your test scores to explore careers and colleges. Macon Parker, with Princeton Review will be our guest speaker. Note: It would be helpful to bring your test PSAT and PreACT you received during homeroom on Jan 4.

Apprenticeship Charlotte will be in the media center on Thursday, Dec 8 at 9:30 am. They are recruiting juniors and seniors for their apprenticeship programs in Machinist and Mechatronic Engineering Technology. Apprentices earn wages, have the potential for permanent employment, and may have tuition and fees covered for their associate degree at CPCC. MGSI at Appalachian State offers a three week summer program for current juniors to gain experience and knowledge in business. The Law Group Internship will meet for every Wednesday for 10 weeks, beginning October 12, 2016. Meetings will be held at various sites, including the courthouse, the jail, Charlotte School of Law and several private law firms. See Ms. Walker in the College and Career Center to apply. Classes At UNC-Chapel Hill
Visit UNC-Chapel Hill's campus to take a variety of interesting and fun classes taught by Carolina students. They are offering over 120 classes with topics that range from college admissions, to self-defense, to zombies, to DNA, and beyond.The program will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9:30 am to 5 pm. UNC Catalyst Conference - Creating Catalysts for Change
The annual Catalyst Conference brings a select group of approximately 100 high school students from North Carolina high schools to UNC-Chapel Hill for a weekend-long exploration and discussion of social justice issues impacting North Carolina youth.
